BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Zubaida Qamar is an Associate Professor of Nutrition and Dietetics and a licensed Registered Dietitian (R.D.). Dr. Qamar has several years of research experience investigating the behavioral aspects of nutrition, and cultural and socioeconomic determinants of health in various communities. Dr. Qamar is largely involved in the basic needs efforts and initiated the studying of food insecurity among students from a community nutrition perspective at San Francisco State University. She is currently leading several projects towards understanding factors associated with food insecurity among students and designing innovative strategies to improve food security and food literacy through quantitative and qualitative feedback. Dr. Qamar’s other areas of research include utilizing technology and community-based approaches towards nutrition programs in diverse communities and reducing health disparities particularly in Asian subgroups. Furthermore, serving in various instructional roles in academia over the years, she is also interested in pedagogical research to understand effective instructional practices. Dr. Qamar is dedicated to research mentorship involving students and advocates incorporating multidisciplinary approaches and partnerships towards common initiatives on campus and beyond.
