Amy Dorie, Ph.D.

Amy Dorie, Ph.D., is Program Lead and Associate Professor of Apparel Design & Merchandising at San Francisco State University. Her teaching and research explore the intersections of fashion, technology, artificial intelligence, consumer behavior, trend forecasting, and design education.

Dr. Dorie is particularly interested in how emerging technologies are reshaping the fashion industry and how fashion education can prepare students to navigate—and help shape—those changes. Her recent work focuses on the integration of generative AI into fashion research, forecasting, design, merchandising, and creative practice, as well as the broader implications of AI for fashion education and the future workforce.

As Program Lead, she works to strengthen industry-connected, experiential learning across the Apparel Design & Merchandising curriculum. Her work has included expanding access to industrial apparel equipment and digital design technologies, developing industry and community partnerships, supporting internships and student professional development, and advancing curriculum innovation across apparel design and merchandising.

Dr. Dorie is committed to accessible public fashion education that combines strong technical and creative preparation with an understanding of the rapidly changing global fashion industry. She works closely with students as they develop the skills, professional networks, portfolios, and perspectives needed to build meaningful careers in fashion and related creative industries.
