Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS
ASID Chapter of San Francisco State University
Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS raises awareness and grants
funds to organizations that provide treatment, direct care services, preventive
education programs and advocacy for individuals impacted by HIV/AIDS.
Each year the Interior Design class volunteers to create an installation
design for the night of the event in San Francisco.
This year, the design team gathered inspiration for their design from an
existentialism angle. The universe is full of people, places, possessions, and
feelings that are all cared for by someone. Each person has their own universe
of family, friends, hobbies, and so much more. Every one of us has something to
fight for out of passion, love, friendship or happiness. Life presents challenges
such as illnesses and hardships, whether it be upon ourselves or our loved ones.
Although it can be easy to lose hope during such events, it is important to
remember that there is still something worth fighting for. The design created was
a symbolic reminder to keep your head up, find the good path, and fight for
what means the most to the viewer.
The idea of having the “universe” painted above the audience’s heads
was to symbolize everyone’s world. They incorporated the color white to
symbolize hope and included an interactive board that created an art piece in
itself out of the guest’s individual life paths and passions. The event was a huge
success and the designers had a great experience throughout the design
conception, process, and execution.
